Protesters march against Trump golf plans
Campaigners took to the dunes in Balmedie for a protest walk against tycoon Donald Trump’s golf course.
Around 250 walkers from the Tripping Up Trump group snaked across the sands from the Visitor Centre to the Bunker site on Saturday.
The group wants to stop Aberdeenshire Council from serving compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) on four homes.
The four sites have been included in a masterplan for the resort, but any decision to use CPOs would need to be backed by Aberdeenshire councillors.
More than 5,000 people signed up to an Evening Express campaign backing the Menie Estate plan. And an independent poll commissioned by the Evening Express found more than eight out of 10 people thought Mr Trump’s golf plan should get the go-ahead.
Sarah Malone, executive vice-president of Trump International Scotland, said the protest march was “nonsense”.
Aberdeenshire Council has backed Mr Trump’s masterplan to build two golf courses, a £250 million hotel, 950 holiday homes and 500 houses.
